News tonight for developers
Come back tonight at a little after 9 p.m. Pacific Time tonight.
Some big multi-billion-dollar corporation would like to announce something.
Why?
Developers, developers, developers!
:-)
Like I said, Mix07 is gonna be interesting and, no, I don’t need to be inside the conference to have a front-seat position on the battlefield.
UPDATE: the news is now up.

Just guessing here… With “Developers, developers, developers!” you refer to MS but could it be something from the Google?
Some kind of an online development environment, and/or a new programming language?
You do have the “Developer Tools” tag there. ;)
We’ll see.

Hmmm … “multi billion dollar company” does narrow it down somewhat, but not quite far enough to put a finger on it! 9:00pm there = midnight here at the other end; guess I’ll wait until tomorrow :(
April 25th, 2007 at 6:21 am
well if its a MS tool i bet it will have an octothorp # in it some where.
please god (aka Susan Ivanova) that its not a new version of flash or somthing in that area.

Hi,
we are a portuguese group of students and we’re doing a project in human resources management about Google. Since you work (worked) there, we wonder if you could answer a set of 6 quick-aswer questions and maybe 2 or 3 fellow workers of yours too. It won’t take long. If you’re available, our email is renata.carneira@gmail.com.
Thank You!

Be sure to send it out via twitter too.
My guess is MS Live AJAX Toolkit

It has to do something with .NET and something with Silverlight I bet :) (oh yeah and something with MAC too)
April 25th, 2007 at 8:09 am
I know a secret! :-)
So VERY cool, too- Being a former developer, I am envious of modern day tools. Where was this stuff 20 years ago?

Rocky is excited? It must be Silverlight :)

met: you don’t know Rocky very well. So don’t try to make guesses like that. :-)

Is this it?
“Microsoft to roll out dynamic-language layer for .Net”
http://blogs.zdnet.com/microsoft/?p=404
April 25th, 2007 at 8:44 am
Arun: no. But that is interesting nonetheless!
April 25th, 2007 at 9:21 am
Probably not from Microsoft, since they’ll probably wait for Mix. Maybe, Google adopts Mono? :D
April 25th, 2007 at 9:22 am
If it is a *full* .Net runtime, feature complete, on OSX I’d be happy. Not bothered about VS.Net (it is a mess) but .Net would make my week. If they can get Apple to ship it with Leopard then better still.
More realistically have Microsoft decided to actually release some *working* dev tools for WPF on XP? :P
April 25th, 2007 at 9:59 am
something from adobe…
April 25th, 2007 at 10:14 am
Adobe and Google …
April 25th, 2007 at 10:23 am
Everything MS put out was supposed to be ground breaking these past 10 years. If anything people have systematically flocked away from their tools in the past few years.
I remember the same type of thing when ASP.net came out. How separating the code from the style was so revolutionary, and how code behind was going to be all the rage.
What actually ended up happening?
Most people ended up using PHP instead.
This is probably something about MS Atlas or something lame like that.
I just got my Linux Journal in the mail yesterday though, and guess what?
http://www.linuxjournal.com/
Woops they did it again. CoverPage page too. Atlas will be the new obscure MS technology like aspx was a couple years ago.
Where’s that oragami buzz now Mr.?
April 25th, 2007 at 11:11 am
Must hate us right coasties. I’m supposed to wait after midnight?
April 25th, 2007 at 11:13 am
@20
Beer, why do you insist on derailing every thread into your “I hate Microsoft” garbage?
We don’t even know that this has anything to do with Microsoft, and if it does, we don’t know the details. Yet that didn’t stop you from posting yet again, “Microsoft sucks”. Grow up.
April 25th, 2007 at 6:20 pm
Google’s Mix like Conference?
April 25th, 2007 at 6:26 pm
@Mike,
Good point. I will wait until 9PM.
April 25th, 2007 at 6:38 pm
Yahoo will present a new ad platform for better ad targeting and relevance.
April 25th, 2007 at 6:50 pm
@bytehead: Forget about right-coasties, what about us in GMT-land? 5 am :O
Guess I’ll read the ho-ha over tomorrow morning’s cornflakes.
April 25th, 2007 at 7:22 pm
Hmmmm, what could you be up to? Can’t wait to find out.
April 25th, 2007 at 7:35 pm
Would someone like Mr. Scoble, who parades about anything that is going wrong at MS, announce something positive about them? …He would really suprise me…
April 25th, 2007 at 7:44 pm
No demos. It’s got to be an interview about some sort of SaaS stuff - maybe the democratizing the web thing. IL targetting JavaScript.
April 25th, 2007 at 8:13 pm
Nick:
I’ve said plenty nice about Microsoft since I left Microsoft too. You must have missed the several nice interviews I’ve done with them. You must have missed that at the Web 2.0 Summit I said Microsoft did the demo of the year http://scobleizer.com/2006/11/10/demo-of-the-year-photosynth/ . You must have missed that I gave the Zune a pretty nice review http://scobleizer.com/2006/10/26/my-thoughts-about-zune-vs-ipod/ considering and praise my Xbox all the time. Not to mention I was in the Wall Street Journal defending Microsoft in December. http://online.wsj.com/public/article/SB116490323676636989-HnHPKLzkyy9xKy2wnokbd2bc_bE_20071130.html
Hell, just go back to last week and watch the Electric Rain interview I put up. http://www.podtech.net/scobleshow/technology/1456/editors-choice-electric-rains-standout-presentation-application Or the Thirteen23 demo I put up. http://www.podtech.net/scobleshow/technology/1422/thirteen23-demo-with-scoble-at-sxsw That’s a preview of the kind of stuff you’ll see at Mix. Or a demo of Digipede, .NET grid tech that’s pretty cool. http://www.podtech.net/scobleshow/technology/1429/demo-of-building-a-grid-with-digipede
You also must have missed the TechFest tour I did with Kevin Schofield. http://www.podtech.net/scobleshow/search/Kevin+Schofield or the Interview with Sanaz Ahari of Microsoft’s Live.com team: http://www.podtech.net/scobleshow/technology/1298/meet-microsoft-livecoms-sanaz-ahari

My guess is it’s something with Google Apps. I only guess this because of the emails being sent out to Google Apps users warning of the Google Apps Calendar downtime scheduled for Thursday.
Direct Outlook syncing would be great, and would make Robert happy about having to use Google Calendar.

Since Scoble says it regards “Developers! Developers! Developers!”, I’m thinking it’s something other than Google Apps, or Google anything.
I’d guess it’s a Microsoft thing, since “Developers! Developers! Developers!” is Ballmer’s trademark. ;)

For us mac users, Panic just released a cool app called Coda.
It puts all the tools necessary to develop/maintain web sites, etc in one window.
Very clean design.

Ok, it’s 12:52 EDT which by my estimation makes it 9:52 PDT. So where is the big news? SOme of us have to get up in the morning!

Rocky, I need ELCO cables with TRS plugs for my adat machines. I only got XLRs with them.
http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=009&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&viewitem=&item=190105121839&rd=1&rd=1
I found some on ebay, but I can’t order them new here in Canada because ELCO cables are no longer being made. Musiciansfriend does not want to ship them to Canada, because they are special order.
I only need 1 more ELCO snake for my 3 ADAT XT20’s.
Do you know what online store I could buy it at?
It’s not that I don’t like computer recording. I have an RME hammerfall with 24 tracks in ADAT optical, BUT, I enjoy having the actual machines there in the rack with the BRC before I dump it into the computer.
I can no longer use XLRs and I really need 1 more ELCO to TRS to hook up to my console. Any info is appreciated, thanks.

http://www.fullcompass.com/search.php?search_simple=true&txtAll=ELCO
These won’t work with ADATs.
There’s one up on ebay but the ELCO adapter is female.
Musiciansfriend just refuses to ship special order to Canada. They will only do in stock.
What I will have to end up doing is buying another used ADAT XT20 on ebay and just take the ELCO cable and resell the machine. Otherwise I may have to wait ages for one with a male ELCO to show up there.
Thanks for trying though.
If your lead involves getting one for $50 or something please share, because I would still be interested.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=190094667639
I purchased this RME card to go along with the stanford http://ccrma.stanford.edu/planetccrma/software/
I could have just lined everything in directly with 3 cheap AD/DA converters, but not having recorders or the BRC anymore just takes away from the recording whole experience. The more LEDs the better.
April 26th, 2007 at 1:07 pm
That should read the “whole recording experience”.
I’m going to buy another ADAT next week if I can’t find just the cable, so if you have a lead, let me know before then. Somebody may have an old ELCO/TRS cable lying around collecting dust and I would so pay $50-60 for it plus shipping because I need it.
