BlogHer is on the ScobleShow

Meet the three who started BlogHer, the great blogging community (11,000 members) and conference. They discuss a range of things with Maryam and me including their upcoming conference in Chicago, trends that are happening in blogs that they are watching. I love what they are doing, the conference last year was really great.

BlogHer started with a question: “where are the women?” Here they are!

Around minute 19 we also talk about code of conduct and community guidelines and the Kathy Sierra incident.

    There is something sexy about women in tech. I'm not talking about women who just work for tech companies, but actual geek chicks. Girls that blog are equally cool, but especially if they talk tech.

    Nothing better than seeing a girl with a MacBook or even better yet, Linux.

    I hope they succeed in having fun and getting more girls in tech.
  • Paco, I have to wonder how many women you just convinced not to go into tech. Hell, I've been in tech for 30 years and you've got me thinking about changing fields.

  • Paco talks about sexy women as well as girls. Paco, you may not want to confess to an interest in minors in a public forum such as a blog.

    Or, if I have misinterpretted your comments, rest assured that organizations such as the AAUW are working hard to ensure that more young women can move beyond obvious social bariers to areas typically reserved for boys and men, sexy or otherwise.

    Sad how nobody commented on the article/video about blogher. Too busy trying to slam people. Stupid. I thought the video was interesting. I learned something new. Don't care to share it, however. Too many victim whiners and self proclaimed "world of (fill in your cause here) protectors." Somebody point out where the insult was in paco's comment- I missed it. I can easily point out the insults in all the other returns.

    Please, PLEASE, grow the f**K UP people.

    You most assuredly did misinterpret my comments.

    I, like a lot of guys use the term women, ladies or girls interchangeably. Women are, after all, girls.

    I don't hold social barriers up for anyone. I think everyone is entitled to the same pay for the same work, despite their sex.

    Phrases like "hang out with the girls" in no way infer minors. Nor does the word "girlfriend". Don't read into anything I said.

    Don't be so defensive of your sex. I meant nothing ominous by my comments. You have to admit, that outside of Silicon Valley or large cities, seeing girls working in IT is rather refreshing and yes, attractive, at least to me.

    I've rarely worked with geek chicks, so when I do, I don't automatically think "sex" or anything like that. Sexy is a term that carries many meanings. In the above case, I simply meant cute/different/attractive.

    Most guys that are not leftist liberals would agree with my sentiments. Read most geek blogs and you'll see what I mean.

    Terms like "hanging out with the girls" and the word "girlfriend" are similarly innocent.

    Sexy in the above connotation meant cute/different/attractive, not "sex". Again, don't read into things.
  • :-) My husband was just surfing around and asked me if I'd heard of 'this' (being BlogHer). I'd first read about BlogHer last year and joined up. I've since found a lot of great tech, reading and writing blogs that I follow. (I'm also a 20-something 'mommy' blogger, but, I blog mainly tech, not about my family or age)

    It's awesome to be part of such a great and intelligent community, and it's cool to see it profiled in many locations on the web. :-) Like the video intro says, there are a lot of lines being crossed where women are connecting and it is wonderful!

    Wow. i've just finished watching the interview. There are so many topics touched upon, I don't even know where to begin commenting. It's just great to get some insight into the community, it's beginnings, and the changing power online communities have brought us.

    I'm from New York City and live on the East Coast and am bipolar and fairly uptight according to my Texan wife...but some of these comments above...man, chill out.

    I am really intrigued by BlogHer, great development for the blogosphere. Keep posting about it, please.
