Another reason I use Google Reader…
I’ve never seen a LOL Cat or a stupid plumber on Google Reader. In fact, I can’t remember ever not being able to get to Google Reader. So, when Ivan Pope says he hates the Bloglines plumber, I see that as yet another advertisement for Google. And we wonder why Google is taking over the world?

All I know is that my Wii loves Google Reader.

There is some issues with occasional gmail outages, though.

Are….you somehow saying that LOLCats are bad?
Shame on you Scoble, you’re obviously a pet hater, or just somebody who hates funny things.

That is one of the reasons I switched from Bloglines to Google Reader…reliability.
I have been hit with a Gmail outage exactly twice since it has launched. Within a 1/2 hour, it was back up. Bloglines outages can often last all night in my experience.

Heh! You’re right, it is a pain. Personally, I’ve tried Google Reader but I found a few things I couldn’t do in it that I’m used to in Bloglines - so I’ve stuck with it. I think the main thing was it didn’t allow me to reorder my feeds the way I wanted to see them - but maybe I didn’t spend enough time in there …

They often say oops!

Hey Robert, I am a long time bloglines user. Recently, i tried the Google Reader, and was really impressed with its features. I even imported my bloglines feeds into GReader. But I don’t know why, i again end up going again and again to bloglines to read my feeds. Though the cost of switching is practically 0, i still stick to bloglines. Don’t know what really the bloglines magic is!

Prem, I used to feel the same way about Newsgator. Once you start reading on one feed reader it’s really hard to change. But for me these three got me:
1) River of news. I don’t read “folder by folder” anymore. Doing so is really a time waster for me. I set Google Reader to come up in “all items” view and then I just “J, J, J, J, J” through the items.
2) Sharing. I can share with you by hitting “Shift-S” and then you see it. Instantly. Bloglines doesn’t do that.
3) Good keyboard commands. I think they are both pretty close to each other there, actually, but Google was ahead when I first tried them out.
Add to that Google’s always up response and Google’s a winner in my book.

Initially I used Feeds associated with IE 7.
I don’t like the way the content is displayed with all posts part of a single page. It was hard to quickly tell the beginning and end of posts, and content was not always displayed correctly.
After reading your blog, I tried using Google Reader, and I have been very happy with it.
It is easy to use, stable, quick and I agree with you that I like having shortcut keys that enables me to get through a lot of content quickly.
I would like some kind of search feature that would allow you to search through entries you have collected in your reader.

You’re 100% right. I made the switch from Bloglines 3 months ago (to Reader) and it has never skipped a beat, sure the Ajax can fail occasionally and it’s sluggish in updating feeds at times, but it’s definitely more reliable than Bloglines.

Anything without some River of News aggregated view just isn’t worth using. A lot of these readers like Netvibes and MyYahoo are just terrible Web2.0 demos that are no good for anything more than a dozen feeds.

Off topic slightly but could you tell me what you use to get your LinkBlog into Twitter. I’m finding Twitterfeed unreliable.

I find that WordPress blogs’ feed takes a longer time to get on Google Reader than blogs from other free blogging services.
I tested with LiveJournal, Blogger and MSN Spaces.
Anyone see this too?

Pradeep - I have noticed this also. It may take a couple of hours and then all of a sudden it seems that a bunch of posts hit the feed at one time.
I posted at noon today and the post still hasn’t hit Google Reader almost 3 hours later.
Does anyone know if this is a WordPress or a Google Reader issue, and can the feed rate can be configured? I notice that Robert’s posts seem to hit the feed pretty quickly. Must be all the Google juice he has.
