Flickr down, so is Zooomr
Flickr is down. So is Zooomr. UPDATE: Flickr is back up, but Zooomr isn’t yet.
One photosharing site is run by Yahoo. Another is run by a 19-year-old.
What is up?
Flickr blog has what’s up. In the meantime the two guys running Zooomr are still doing live TV.

Yeah, I don’t know what it is, but being able to interact with Thomas Hawk and Kris Tate in real time is actually kind of cool.
No substitute for a roll out on software that was supposed to be out a week ago (and then again, last night according to this blog) — but you get what I mean. ;)

Flickr’s downtime was scheduled, announced, and explained. Zooomr… ugh.
Thomas Hawk gets points for generating buzz out of nothing (apart from well-timed Flickr hit pieces, often flogged on his own Flickr account). Coverage massively disproportionate to its user base, let alone basic merit. How many times has the new and improved Zooomr been announced, again?

Well, it’s certainly not vaporware.
Mark III went live.

Zian: spoke too soon. It went live for a few minutes before falling over due to a server that is going bad. Zooomr needs new hardware and needs it badly.

I hear the words “funding needed badly” when I see what’s happening to zooomr now.

Flickr has been down for me for more than a year. I’ve not been able to use the Flickr uploader on any of the computers on my home network. Flickr says it may be my Linksys router.

Google uploader for Apple worked great for me (dragged a folder with half a gig of pictures onto the icon and it created an album with the name of the folder and uploaded all the pics in one swell foop).
No uploader for Linux, but I like the fact that the web interface does all the basic stuff (I don’t need no stinkin image manipulation tool).
And you get a gig, no strings, no expiration, no magical morphing file names, no ads.
