Microsoft releases new Windows Live Writer

Microsoft just released a new version of its Windows Live Writer — an offline blog editing tool. I’ve been using it all morning and it’s pretty damn nice.

Unfortunately I’m at Google where they’ll be launching news of their own in about an hour. See ya then!

Microsoft also just released new version of Windows Live Mail and Windows Live Messenger too.

    It’s about time! I love Live Writer, but I was almost beginning to think that they had abandoned it. This is good news, especially in the off-line blog editing area where there’s not much to write home about.

    The new features sound great, but I wish I hadn’t read this post. 3 crashes, once not even ctrl-alt-del worked (I don’t mean it could not kill writer, ctrl-alt-del itself got disabled) >>> Big Switch time, reboot twice… now it appears to be up.

    I’d love to bill MS for an hour lost …

    Scoble, if you are within earshot of anyone at Google, ask them to not be evil and work with the Microsoft Live Writer team to help them maintain full compatibility with Blogger. Thanks! :)

    I liked the first version of Live writer, but I also can do the same thing on my Machine with office 2007.
    Otherwise I would have continued to use it.

    It’s pretty good concidering it’s a Beta, I had no trouble or any crashes when I worked with it.

    Messenger is Windows only, Live Mail may work outside of IE on Windows, but the RSS requires IE 7.

    I thought “Live” was supposed to be all web-based and not tied to a platform, and part of Microsoft’s new commitment to interop. Sigh, same old Microsoft, still living in 1997. Nothing ever changes when Ballmer’s in charge.

    And people wonder why I think committing to Silverlight before there’s at least a version 2.0 for !MS browsers and Platforms, with feature upgrades and parity is foolish.

    It seems Windows Live Writer is not available world wide yet. I could not download it when I am in Malaysia. But I could download it from US.

    Perhaps there is a reason it is not globally world wide yet. The version I got does not allow me to specify categories for a wordpress blog.

    I also could not install the previous version over it.
    Uninstalling and installing a previous version caused Writer not to work at all.
