YouTubing from the N95

I finally have a phone that can really run Shozu properly. Here’s my first “hello world” video. Programmers always test their programming tools by doing a “hello world” application: a minimal app that basically writes “hello world” on the screen. So, I had Maryam say hello to you all. Oh, I always call her “Goofy.” She calls me that too. Actually she says she’s “Goofy’s keeper.” Ahh, these are the depths we’ve sunk to: revealing our stupid nicknames on YouTube.

Shozu is a cool service. Lets you upload photos and videos to all sorts of different services without using email from your phone. Highly recommended.

This is great stuff cause now I can get video up from my cell phone immediately from news events.

What other mobile apps should I try on my Nokia phone?

  • http://colinizer.com/ colin

PhoneThemes (http://www.phonethemes.com), though it may have not been tested on that phone yet.

You should definitely download some cell-screen optimized porn, just to test the (major) real-world application of mobile computing.

I have a couple suggestions, and some linkage.

Symella-P2P downloading right from your N95 over EDGE or WLAN. (http://www.aut.bme.hu/portal/SymellaDownload.aspx)

Symtorrent-Download torrents right to your N95 over EDGE or WLAN. (http://www.aut.bme.hu/PORTAL/SymTorrentDownload.aspx?id=524b4cb8-7823-43f3-891c-983cbcfe4945)

Salling Clicker-Control your Media Player from your N95 over WLAN or Bluetooth. (http://www.sallingsoftware.com)

Just to get you started. Hope you’re enjoying your new phone. :)

Oh, you may also want to give a pair of Bluetooth headphones a whirl, since the N95 does indeed have the A2DP Bluetooth profile to support such hardware.

Try the Nokia Sports Tracker app, and something like Locr will help you geo tag photos (although I think Shozu does too). Both are ideal for your next photo walk!

but fring of course. Fully optimised for the N95, allows you to talk VoIP with fring, skype and googletalk users.

Make sure you have a flat contract though; here is europe with 3G being quite universal, it works remarkably well.

    - Nokia Sports Tracker, a GPS based activity tracker with KML output ;

    - m3Dcam, to create 3D photos using your mobile phone ;

    - Virtual Sculpture Projet, “the very first Augmented Reality application on mobile phones”.

    - And an interesting link about Mobile Image Recognition Technology

    - Oh, and Zurfer, a Flickr location-based photo browser and Zonetag for Flcikr geotagging soon available on the N95.

Robert, I’ve got a few I’ll recommend with a bit of linkage:

Fring – great VOIP app, now has twitter alerts incorporated, can use it with msn, etc

Seven – Perfect for push exchange email and pop3 email, as well as gmail, yahoo, and others, currently in open beta

Spodtronic – will handle all your podcast needs and you can also use it for internet radio

and of course the N95 WOM world for the latest in the social media about the device, apps, etc :)

You should set up the embeded flickr uploading app.

    Here’s how to confugure it.

    http://www.flickr.com/nokia/configure/n95/

Then you can take a photo and post directly to flickr.

A bit beyond my blogging techniques for now (but I’m trying to learn). Could you direct me to a page that discusses how to properly embed a YouTube video, as you have clearly done? I am using a plugin and it works okay with one WordPress theme but not another, but it also does not show in the feeds: just a link does. What I am using may work okay for my readers, which is what I most care about, but I want to ensure I am doing the best I can technically with this.

I know you’re busy beyond belief, but would much appreciate some advice.

    Thank you much.

How is your battery life now that you are running Shozu? Many people have experienced drained batteries, as the Shozu application runs 24/7 in the background…

It is a pity, because it seems to be the only interesting application that can do many things, including blogging and GeoTagging…

I also found that ShoZu (which I’ve used extensively on other S60 devices) completely killed my N95. Caused random lockups and shutdowns, as well as murdered my battery life.

Check out the UPnP stuff in this article. Very cool stuff and interesting that it uses open standards etc. Also there’s a bunch of other info on the above site. Personal favourites are Nokia’s Podcasting app and Nokia Internet Radio (plays arious streams). Epocware, Psiloc, Wildpalm and Zingmagic all have some interesting basic apps and games. e.g. Sync your text messages to Gamil, location aware profiles, font magnifier, puzzle games, weather stuff.

Others have already mentioned Fring but there are a whole load of VoIP solution – Barablue, Truphone, Gizmo and the truth is any VoiP service will work if you get the settings entered, the above just provide easier set up via wizards.

You probably already know about Google Maps, but check out the third part GMaps which combines the Yahoo, MSN, Google service etc + more into one application. Other location apps include Viewranger (UK only), GETrack (the combine with photos to geotag (or geotag using Shozu just have the gps application (in the tools folder) on at the same time as taking photos – shozu does the rest.

There’s load of stuff – really depends what your thing is!
