Cranky geeks is up — where are you going to buy your iPhone?

Yeah, the Cranky Geeks episode is up from today. John Dvorak is a hoot. Congrats to him for getting hired as a VP at PodShow, too. Anyway, of course we talked about the iPhone. What else is there to talk about?

Speaking of iPhone, I find I need to escape the Bay Area to try to get away from iPhone hype. This weekend I’ll be down in Cabo speaking to a bunch of PR professionals (Monday is the opening of Apple’s developer conference and almost everyone else who’s in the press is going to try to get a look at the iPhone).

At the end of the month I’ll be speaking at the Utah Blogger Conference. But, really, you’ll find me in line at the Salt Lake City Apple store.

Where are you going to buy your iPhone?

I’m only getting one if Rogers.ca makes it available for $99 with a 3 year plan. If not then no. My Moto RAZR is just fine. My car already has GPS. If you are buying this for GPS, DON’T, manual GPS on the road will be impossible to use while driving. I guarantee it. You’ll crash.

Cingular store, at least 1 more year. Wouldn’t get a 1st gen.

You’re shooting yourself in the foot a bit hear, as Apple will be upgrading on the fly for the next 2 years, for free. The whole Gen1, Gen2 thing is misplaced, methinks.

Same goes for the AppleTV… constant free system upgrades and features added for 2 years

I live in Bothell now, so I have to figure out where the freak to go…does anyone REALLY expect long lines? I mean, it is an expensive phone that requires a 2 year contract. I fly back on the 28th from speaking at Web Video Summit. Hopefully, I am not too late ;)

Even though most of the above posters indicate they are not getting an iPhone (and there seems to be a backlash at having it shoved down our throats as the best thing since sliced bread), Apple fanboys will buy this thing in droves. And Apple will make plenty of money servicing that market, even if they never expand much past the Apple fanboy market.

Let’s see.. We have hardly any fresh water left in the world, people are dying daily in Iraq, People are brutally murdered everyday by bratty teenagers with gun permits, gas is $4 a gallon, unemployment is up, stock is down, The Sopranos is almost over, PS3 is crap! The Wii is nice but no one cares, The polar ice caps are melting, Melinda Doolittle didn’t win Idol.. I could care less about a $600 phone. But hey thanks.

Apple Store @ Stanford Shopping Center. I sure hope Steve is building enough to meet initial demand.

Come on people. If you are in the technology business for a living you need to have one of these for your own education.

I believe this device is a game changer. Web apps delivered to where you are. This is the future coming right at you.

When high end PCs cost $9,000 (yes, I AM that old) would you have owned one?

Nowhere, I am Profoundly Deaf so the iPhone is useless, unless I want to use it as a doorstop. I’ll stick to my Blackberry. Thanks for asking, Scobleizer
