Google Reader losing feeds?
I’ve seen quite a few people complain that Google Reader lost their feeds like Louis Gray did today. Mine are still here, but just to be safe I backed them up. Hopefully they get everyone’s accounts restored properly. Let me know in my comments here if you’re having trouble with Google Reader.

Yeah, I lost my feeds. I thought it was a glitch because I just yesterday consolidated two different google accounts into one (basically imported my feeds into my Gmail login).
So I did a re-import, and they all came back, including read/unread flags.
Very strange.

Mine came back after about half an hour. The only problem I had with them then was they persisted in showing all items rather than only updated items, regardless of the setting for awhile.
Then that cleared up. But I didn’t even realize that Reader had an export, so I’ll definitely do that.

A fair number of people (including me) are having problems with the short cut keys just disappearing. This is since the “Gears” introduction but doesn’t require it to be installed for the problem to occur:

The Reader team has been keeping folks informed here:

Looks like people’s feeds should be back by now, but I’m sure the Reader team will be digging into what happened. If anyone wants to backup their OPML file (which is always a good idea), click on Settings->Import/Export in Google Reader.

I just noticed Google reader also does not work in HTTPS SSL mode. That means that everybody in my office can potentially steal my TCP packets in clear text and tell what I am reading about . So can my ISP, and they can sell the data to hitwise. So can any agency without a warrant by tapping the network traffic on LAN from an adjacent office. So can anybody with airdump if I use Google reader from wifi in a coffee shop.

How do you back your feeds up? Using some other feed reader or is there some add-on for google reader exist? Just wante to confirm. I dont think I have any problem with my google reader!

Mine were gone, and now they are here again.
My account has been restored, thank you Mister Google

Mine are gone and some have come back. I just added 5 new feeds last night and they are M.I.A. I had the same problem with Google spreadsheet. It was gone for a day and magically came back. I wonder if ZOHO has this problem….?

Robert, the feeds were definitely gone for about an hour. The discussion board Matt mentioned should have the updates. But it has been all restored. It was a good reminder to back up often. Trends data and feeds got wiped out.

Temporary glitch around 4:30pm EST. Lost all feeds, but I saw all my old folders that I had deleted when i changed my feeds around 3 / 6 months ago. I took a deep breath and figured they were doing some work, and within 5 mins or so, everyting came back correctly. Now, at 9pm EST, everything is fine, and fast. I have confidence in Google.

I lost mine mid-afternoon but they are back now or I wouldn’t have seen this post. My personalized iGoogle page is still missing though.

Didn’t lose feeds but I subscribe to the Official Google Blog and it keeps rerunning a lot of old feeds. Today is the second time this has happened.

An official response to the outage is now on the Google Reader blog.

Hey Robert!
Can you do me (and the Internet) a big favour?
I noticed that you are able to use various services available on the Internet to track what people are saying about you / posting links to you / etc.
The next time you need an idea for a post, could you write out how you use these various services and how to make them work? I’m sure a lot of people out there are able to do this… but I’m in the dark.
Thank you so much! I would really find that useful.
Cheers,
Jeremy

a friend also lost around 50% of the RSS feeds in a couple of hours.

Once again, the fourth time (every time I go to the Google Reader-page with at least a quarter of an hour difference between the last time) the Official Google Reader blog appears as unread (the last 20 blog posts).
I haven’t lost any feeds, though.

wow are you also trapped on the internet?

Google Reader Backup
Das scheint mir ein mehr als geeigneter Zeitpunkt zu sein, einen Backup der eigenen Feeds in Form einer OPML Datei zu machen.
June 12th, 2007 at 7:48 am
Yep. I lost mine for a while yesterday too. They are back for me.
June 12th, 2007 at 9:00 am
How about posting your OPML for download?
June 12th, 2007 at 9:19 am
Yes, I lost my feeds. Through sheer panic (I had about 450 feeds) I backed up to a point about 3 weeks ago (when I only had 400 feeds), so, I did lose a few feeds in the process. Oh well, sometimes you eat the bar and sometimes the bar eats you.

I had a problem too. I plan on writing a little rant in my humor/satire blog. Check it out:

Enjoy.

My solution: run your own RSS service.
First Gmail, now GReader. Where will the Google monster hit next? At any rate, make sure you use http://share.opml.org with your OPML file.

Mine aren’t gone either. But this is an evil bug!

Not to advertise, but there is a tool called Illumio which will read all your favorite feeds and give you the stuff that you want.It will also connect you with people with similar interest and you can create your own group and add feeds to the group.
It is worth a try !

The size of the file was 128 kb..however wen i received the email with the feeds attached..it was just 102kb!!

Robert - You originally recommended Google Reader to me and I will say it is a great tool. At last I can read lots of blogs as fast as reading the newpaper. I never miss what’s happening. Good luck with the iPhone. When Walt Mossberg at WSJ says it is the best web browser on a phone he has ever seen it must be amazing.
