Corporate Culture, Facebook Style

Facebook turned on its new video feature today. Its best evangelist? Chris Putnam.

Do you remember that name? Oldtimers here will. Five years ago, back when he was 16, he let me listen to his piano practice via a Web service. Today? He’s on Facebook.

He’s an engineer there and runs security. I’ve watched a bunch of his videos. They are fun, if not frivolous things. Facebook seems to have a fun culture.

What’s weird is I’m now dealing with Ami Vora, who works in Facebook’s PR department. Wait a second, I know Ami. She used to work at Microsoft and I’ve even interviewed her a time or two back on Channel 9.

Oh, and happy 21′st birthday Chris!

Is Facebook the next Google? What’s the bet Google will pay $3 billion to buy Facebook?

sisirkoppaka: I was thinking Microsoft will buy it for $5 billion.

    Hi Robert,
I thought the same too. I actually typed 10 then thought that 5 would be nice but then changed it again to 3 because an underestimation is always better than an overestimation. ;-) Anyway, I am sure somebody or the other will definitely buy it and it will in all probability be above $5 billion and an extra $20million for each passing week! But the best option for me, if I were Facebook’s sole owner and not interested in money, would be to not to go for an aquisition and try not the get locked onto a particular network.

    Robert,
They actually have had the video feature for about 4 weeks on facebook. I really do like their video application. It is interesting to note that videos in facebook look clearer than videos on youtube; we actually tested this with the same source file uploaded.

They have added some additional functionality in this announcement on the facebook blog.

You can see 3 videos reviews that I did for facereviews about 3 weeks ago.

Well, Microsoft may buy Facebook rather than Google as I thought. I didn’t know all about the Microsoft-Facebook partnership and the MIX07 stuff before.
