Getting photos from iPhone to Flickr

I’m getting a lot of questions about how we got the images sent from our iPhone to Flickr while we were walking around. Flickr has an “email images up” capability. You have to set up an email account on Flickr. Make a contact on the iPhone for Flickr with the email address that Flickr gives you. Then, take pictures and click the “send as email” button after you snap a picture.

That’s how Patrick was getting photos on Flickr while we were walking around the neighborhood. No syncing required.

On my Nokia N95 I just use Shozu, which is a Java app, to upload my photos. Works pretty well too.

    Yep, and you can set it up to simultaneously post the image to your blog when you upload it, for instant sharing. :) Pretty slick if you ask me. I set up my Flickr contact in my iPhone earlier this evening to make the uploading/blogging process simple. It works great!

    It’s been really fun seeing all the photos you guys have been posting. :)

    Unfortunately it seems that the iPhone automatically resizes pics to be 640×480 when you e-mail them out. Is there a setting to change that? (I don’t own an iPhone, just read Josh Bancroft’s tweet about that, and noticed that when my bro sent me some pics from his iPhone)

    You can of course email your photos to flickr from the Nokia…
    Nobody has mentioned SIZE? isnt the Iphone TOO BIG?

    Emailing pictures from the iPhone works great.. to bad it scales them down to 640 x 480, and as far as I know, there’s no way to turn that off

    You do know that N95 has built-in Flickr (and Vox for Video) upload support?

    Uploading video to Vox is extremely cool, especially when you edit the credits, transitions etc. in the phone :-)

    I’ve found the built-in uploader to be far more reliable and less invasive than ShoZu (which pops up and asks you if you want to upload after every pic you take!)

    Do you have any particular wise reasons to take the ShoZu route we should know about?

You’re not limited by the built in software. You can even add your own blog. You can also stop it scaling pics, so the full sized N95 pic goes up.

    One reason I like Shozu? It syncs the commetns to all your Flickr Pics, so you can read comments on them from the handset.

    (And it backs up your contacts if you want to an online database).

    You can take the multitude of headache inducing steps that are mentioned here OR simply send your photos to pics@burstcast.com and an account is automatically created for you, your pictures are stored, and you can share them with friends at http://www.burstcast.com.

    No downloading of apps or having to find/remember some unique email address to send them to. There really is no easier way.

    I guess this is probably a dumb question, but can you not just upload the picture from the Flickr website if you need to?

    I thought that since it has a “real” browser (instead of the weird ones that come on most phones) you could just use the flickr website. Of course, if you can’t browse the file system then I guess it makes sense.

    Ok, that makes sense. I wish phones would let you access the file system via browser, even if it was only select folders. But then I guess it would hurt the SMS biz that they hold so dear.
