InCase doing something innovative with Flickr

Incase is a company that makes cases for iPhones. I like their rubber case the best out of all the cases I’ve seen. But their home page is doing something unique. If you have an Incase on your iPhone, you can show it off on their home page by adding “goincase” as a tag on your photos and they’ll be displayed along the bottom of their home page.

That’s smart. Oh, they do it for YouTube videos too.

It’s a great idea and it’s not such a great idea. I could just post a image of a competitors product or post something inappropriate and just tag it so it will show up on the home page. I think Yahoo Games had some trouble with this a while ago. Maybe there is an approval process that I don’t know about.

It’s not a totally new thing. I’ve found Nokia pulling some of my stories tagged on technorati with N95 into the wad of Flash that is the N-Series site.

I believe moo.com having been doing this for a while being all Web 2.0 and all.

    Robert,

Funny, I was just mentioning that to my coworkers yesterday in the context of social media ideas. I’ve been noticing other companies selling retail-type products doing the same.

As for Nokia, they’ve been doing that a long time, but it is interesting to see it on less “techy” companies like InCase and a few other.

    Ethan,

There is no approval process that I’m aware of, but I dont know how InCase is pulling photos. It could be a simple “anything with goincase” API call or something more sophisticated requiring an editor.

You bring up an intersting point, in any case, however. (oh bad pun).
