Video startups get veterans to jump

Wild, I was just reading feeds and posting the best to my link blog when this came through Google Reader: Old Media Jumping to New Media. Wow, Jim Louderback (pictured above at a recent photowalking) is now CEO over at Revision 3. Damn, that just made Revision 3 a lot more interesting (not that they needed interesting with Kevin Rose and millions of dollars in new funding behind them).

I’ve known Jim a long time. He interviewed me for a job back when ZDTV was starting up (you know it as TechTV, which is where Kevin Rose, along with a raft of others, gained his popularity).

That report is also saying Veronica Belmont has left CNET to join Jason Calacanis’ new firm, Mahalo. UPDATE: Veronica has posted her own announcement on her blog.

Bonus link: I love Mark Cuban’s HDNet and he gives a report on that here.

Ahhh, the video space is heating up! Gotta get back to work…

PS, thanks to Alan Leclair for the photo of Jim.

  1. It will be interesting to watch Revision3 content enter the mainstream as TiVos and AppleTVs make the content more accessible to non-geeks. I bet a lot of it will be popular with the general public as well.

  3. It’s got to be a great time to be a creative person right now. Video startups are plentiful, and haven’t yet been gobbled up by huge corporate interests, which translates to the ability to be innovative and gain viewership and not have to deal with a culture of business models that wipe out anything outside the accepted norm.

And that’s a hilarious picture, by the way…

  5. He may be a good CEO, but as a host he came off as a cocky duchebag. What’s New Now was intolerable to listen to with his constant rank pulling and reminding everyone he’s the boss.

  7. I think this is a good move I just hope he grabs Patrick and Robert on the way out. I would much rather see them working for Rev3 than PC Mag.

  9. When that picture of Louderback came across Google Reader I laughed my head off. Was that from a segment he did? Best of luck to Jim and Rev3. Hopefully they will bring back the good ol’ days of zd/tech tv.

  11. Jim Louderback is annoying and I can’t stand him. As long as he doesn’t show up on any Rev3 podcasts, I won’t mind. :)

  13. The technology is there to compete as a smaller business too. Companies like splashcastmedia make video, photo, podcast and document syndication seamless.
Indie’s are looking like they are in a great spot.

  15. Why Veronica why? I’ll be an admirer of Calcanis one day but until his ego deflates. He’s annoying, and a pain. Best of luck veronica… BOL will miss ya

  17. “Heating up”? The video space has been on fire for over a year now.

However, old media is just starting to realize the viewership shift from old TV to new TV. This puts indie video makers in a good place.
