“Jewelers might have to count iPods and cell phones as new rivals for the affections of female consumers.

A new study from the Oxygen cable network reports that women are closing the gender gap when it comes to technology, showing strong interest in tech-heavy products, often at the expense of more traditional luxury goods, including jewelry.

The “Women’s Watch: Girls Gone Wired” study says 79 percent of the female market is interested in and using technology, breaking the myth that the only women interested in technology are urban trendsetters.”

iPhone over jewelry I just don’t believe it.

It sounds a lot more like she doesn’t want either.

Still jewelry probably will value more long term? If you’re in war maybe you can pawn it or something, an iPhone… ummmm… How can anybody blend an iPhoooone! Jewelries can melt & still be of value.

Honestly, I would have liked it if my husband had asked for my input on what he was getting for “me” to use. Just like you bought her the BMW for her to use. Who drives it more? Her or you?

And it is the thought behind the gift, not the gift itself that counts. Did think about what she might want? I know that she loves the phone, but on the off chance that she didn’t, did you do any research into anything else that she might have liked to have had for her birthday? Gee with a new bambino coming into the world soon, there are a million and oe other directions your mind could have gone, too, in the way, of meaningful, heartfelt, birthday gifts. I am sorry, but an IPhone, doesn’t to me, say, I put a lot of thought into your gift. But that is just me.

Mind your business Rebecca. Let’s assume for one second that Robert knows his wife better than you do.

Everyone likes a good, sincere, heartfelt gesture no matter what. But let’s face it, you’d get a lot more practical day-to-day use out of gadgets than you would expensive jewelry that you only bring out on special occasions.

Rebecca, you stepped into it. I made a comment once about something Robert ‘did’ for Maryam and got slammed heartily for my troubles.

A Robert and Maryam post is only supposed to inspire verbal kittens and puppies.

But having said that, it really didn’t sound like Maryam wanted either an iPhone or jewelry, to me, too.

Angel, when Robert stops posting his business to the web, perhaps we’ll all stop minding it.

Chris, no I’m not. It just annoys me when I see people pretend they know what’s best for a couple’s relationship than the actual people involved in it.

It’s even more ridiculous in this case when his wife CLEARLY STATES in the first sentence that she loves the item that he bought her.

Doesn’t possession (or merely touching) of an iphone turn one into a geek on contact? So I don’t think “a review of the iphone by a non-geek” is theoretically possible.

Angel, You are clearly passionate about this issue, and I understand your point of view clearly now.

Maryam drives her BMW more than me. She loves driving that car too.

In both cases I bought things that she said she wanted. She told me she wanted a new car. I got her a BMW. She told me she wanted a new cell phone. I got her an iPhone.

When she told me she wanted a ring, I got her a ring.

She is a good joker that I go a bit overboard, but that’s just me. Only the best for Maryam.

I’m pretty sure she hopes the someday she doesn’t have to tell you what she wants. She probably hopes you will be paying enough attention that you will know what she wants without either having to ask or her having to tell you. I may be wrong, but I doubt it.

Angel, if you know any out of work or semi employed people that are regularly in tech circles from Seattle or SF that would like a part time sales rep job, please get a hold of me. Craigslist does not take Canadian issued credit card payments and I’m having a hard time finding one.

I ask because you seem very passionate about technology and I am taking a chance that you may know one.

I would love for a guy to buy me an Iphone than jewelry any day! It’s useful and fun! Jewelry is nice but technology is better!
