Incentive to join Facebook
I just posted videos I did with Siemens’ Web strategist and Intel’s software community manager to Facebook. Available to my Facebook friends. I’ll add you as a friend so you can see these videos. Just sign up on Facebook and add me as a friend.

Where is that old myspace T-shirt again?
I sense a new version soon.

Now dang it Scoble, if you are going to take the time to post about something here, post the video here to. I’m not getting sucked into the Facebook black hole

This walled garden crap is becoming as bad for the internet as the telcos’ anti-net-neutrality moves. I mean, anyone who really wants to manage a gazillion different logins should either take some harder classes or get a real life.

If anyone is frustrated by scoble’s relentless coverage of Facebook, go here http://scobleizer.com/2007/07/19/poke-scoble-in-the-nose-or-make-your-own-game-at-mygamecom/

Huh? You don’t work for Facebook do you? Why would you post something only on Facebook? Why not post it so that only people who have iPhones can view it? Even better, why not post it so that only people who have iPhones and are on Facebook and Pownce can view it?
July 19th, 2007 at 10:54 pm
Where’s the incentive?
July 19th, 2007 at 10:57 pm
Mike B: why post it only on Facebook? Because some video is just for my friends. If you aren’t a friend of mine you can’t view it.
LD: don’t worry, you wouldn’t get it anyway. Go back to Digg.

Why would I want to see this video ? You dont state any reasons why it’s supposed to be good.
July 20th, 2007 at 12:02 am
Eric: they talk about what they are seeing happen on the Web. Short and sweet, too. There are others coming on my Facebook account. If you don’t see value in my interviews by now (I’ve done more than 800) then not sure what I could say that would get you interested.
July 20th, 2007 at 5:49 am
It isn’t if one sees value, that’s kind of beside the point. If there’s value, post them wide and far, you’re friends aren’t just on Facebook.
July 20th, 2007 at 10:03 am
I actually want to see the video (so I’ve added you as a friend) but the tone and the approach of this blog entry to get more friends is completely wrong. I agree with PXLated that, “If there’s value, post them wide and far …”
Robert, you are a smart man but this post and this approach is very wrong. I say this as your friend (OK, even if it is just a new FF “Facebook Friend”)

I’ve never used Digg. I just think it’s silly to call two videos that you don’t describe at all “incentive” to join FaceBook - especially given PodTech’s laying off of content producers and a clear need to get more people watching the videos. Why wall them off?
You’re probably right, though, that I don’t “get” FaceBook. Your current hyping of it, along with the goal of having thousands of “friends” doesn’t do much to get me interested. It’s like a high school kid bragging about how many people signed his yearbook — regardless of the actual value of those relationships.
July 20th, 2007 at 10:40 am
LD: my videos had more than 10x the viewership of GETV. These aren’t full-blown videos like are over on PodTech.

Already added you as a friend there, just waiting for an answer ;)

@13 “It’s like a high school kid bragging about how many people signed his yearbook ”
That’s the BEST description of Scoble I’ve heard yet!

My first impression of Facebook is that it kinda sucks compared to LinkedIn. I signed up just to see what it was all about, then I tried adding Scoble as a friend (not for the incentive, but just to see how easy/difficult it was to interact with Facebook).
I can’t find a way to see my invitation, so I’m not even sure it worked. Either it didn’t work or Scoble decided not to accept me - boo hoo.
On LinkedIn, the UI to manage your contacts and invitations works quite well. I can see a list of invitations I’ve sent, when they were sent, whether they were accepted, etc.
Where is this on Facebook? It just seems so clunky to use - very non-intuitive. It must be an acquired taste.

I’m amazed at the amount of vitriol expressed on this post. If you don’t want to view the vids - or join Facebook - don’t. Scoble, ReadWriteWeb (which just concluded their Facebook Week) and many others (just Google) all see substantial value to this service. So do I.
After reading John Gruber’s and Marc Andreessen’s explanations on why they don’t allow comments on their blogs - this seems a perfect example of why they are absolutely right.

I’m pretty sure this will have all the tech bloggers running to facebook, leaving myspace utterly desolate. Haha.

Similar to other comments here, I too think that putting content inside facebook alone, is somewhat of a blatant attempt at increasing one’s friend list.
However, after reviewing a number of social networks, and settling on facebook ( ease of use, most of the friends that i really want to talk to are really there) I would have to agree with Robert Scoble while at the same time chuckling at the blatant “increase my friend list” tactic.
Anyway, at this time, I think Robert’s facebook account has been **put on hold for scraping** ??? Yes, No ???
Anyway, if you do have a facebook account, one of the more complete fun applications inside, other than the texas holdem poker game which is pretty cool, is the integrated bingo here>Bingo at Facebook here

Those millions of applications, and the invites that come along everytime a friend signs up to one, is exactly one of the reasons I’ve left Facebook well and alone. Just today I decided to go in an clean my underused account up, and – lo and behold – 116 application invites. To block them all one by one takes too much time, so I ignore them. But I can’t find anywhere where you can block application invites completely (so you won’t get ANY.) If they add that feature, maybe I’d start using it again, as there is some use to Facebook – but, right now, it just feels like a whole lot of social spam to me.

I can’t find you at Facebook. What must I use as search terms to find you in there?
