iPhone search from Google
Mark Lucovsky just sent me this little thing they are working on at Google: iPhone search. Looks great on Patrick’s iPhone.

Unless I’m missing something, it needs a simple way to blank the search field and start over, since the iphone interface forces you to hit delete until the current text is gone. Maybe pressing search again without changing the text could blank it? or just a small “clear” button. Reloading the page does clear the search field but that’s a bit slow on EDGE.
But yeah, otherwise very nice.

Cool — iPhone Google Search
Google scheint speziell für das iPhone einen Einstieg in ihre Search-Engine zu bauen. Das hat zumindest Robert Scoble erfahren.Unter dieser URL (Google iPhone Search) kann getestet werden. Ich finde s…

I’m impressed at how quick it returns results. I think if I’m going to use Google, this might be the page to search from - ad free.

iPhone Search: in progress from Google
I’ve found the built-in search bar on the iPhone to be just fine, but in typical Google fashion, the search company is looking to make things better and easier. Robert Scoble got wind of their effort and says it looks great on Patrick’s iPhone. I did…

@1 - At the bottom of the list of results there is a “clear results” link. Not the ideal place, but given how fat fingers are, putting too many controls at the top of the page gets pretty cramped.

@Mark Lucovsky
Ah, so there is! That works for me, thanks for pointing it out.

While personally I don’t have a problem with Google on my iPhone, anything that “might” make it better or easier will be appreciated.

Another cool application for iphone…PressDisplay.com
Great news for iPhone owners who like to keep up with the news while on the move. PressDisplay.com (the largest online newspaper kiosk in the world) now runs on iPhone, which means you can now view all your fave newspapers right in the palm of your hand. Even newspapers from other countries.
And not just poor imitations of these papers, either: PressDisplay.com gives you exact replicas of these newspapers with smart navigation. It’s just like reading the print edition, only without the messy newsprint fingers.
One more thing… PressDisplay.com for iPhone is being offered at no charge through the end of August. News junkies rejoice!
The whole story is at: http://www.prweb.com/releases/pressdisplay/iphone/prweb541724.htm
Warm regards,
Gayle

For this to be really useful, MobileSafari should use it to deliver results when you use the built-in search function. Or at least give you the option.

Those of you that liked this sample app, might want to try this update which now includes a tab for Blog Search as well:

Better yet, use this code as a sample and build your own iPhone pages with embedded search. There is nothing really magic about this sample other than its CSS is designed with the iPhone and fat-fingers in mind. The code that powers the search is stock Google AJAX Search API which is designed to run on any page, and on any host that can cope with a little simple JavaScript.

Is Mark Lucovsky doing what you did at Microsoft?
Is he the product evangelist at Google?
His name seems to be coming up an awful lot these days.
July 24th, 2007 at 8:22 am
@15 - No. No one could do what Scoble did at Microsoft :)
I’m the Lead Developer on Google AJAX APIs. I wrote the AJAX Search API, etc.

The internet seems to be adapting more to portable devices and iPhones than it is to computers nowadays. But then again, computers seem to be getting smaller and smaller as well.
