The Steve Jobs tax: Hardware

I want one of those new wireless keyboards. Thin like a razor. I want one.

I’m not an iMac customer, though. I have a great desktop computer at home. I never use it. Instead I use my laptop for everything.

But, this gets to something I’ve noticed lately. Everytime Steve Jobs gets on stage several hundred dollars disappear from my wallet. It’s the Steve Jobs tax.

Like I said. I want one of those new wireless keyboards. That’ll look just awesome on my desk at work.

    You don't have a problem with the lack of a numerical keypad on the wireless version? That's a feature I'd have a hard time letting go.
  • I don't use that very often, but, yeah, I guess if you use that then you'll miss it.

  • "Looking awesome" is good, but easy on your wrists is even better IMHO. How ergonomic is it?

    That's not a good thing Robert. He is an excellent showman, but you have to know when a product is worth buying. Judging by the price of Apple's products, I'd say they aren't.

    That keyboard is beautiful but ergonomically it's going to be bad. Tilted up means that your wrists are going to be tilted up, which means pressure on the wrists. I'll stick to my extremely ugly, extremely expensive, but extremely comfortable Kinesis Contour :-)

    I think the new Apple keyboard should be at the MoMA but not on a desktop. Don't create more people with repetitive stress injuries plz! okthxbye

    Yeah, my hands are hurting after 30min on a stock Dell keyboard or laptop. I need the ergonomics of a Natural or something similar.

    The new wireless keyboard/mouse setups look great, and I want one...but they are never ergonomic enough to take the risk.
  • For me the wireless model is better - no number pad means the mouse is closer to the keyboard, less time with my right arm way off to the right. Last time I moved to such a keyboard I noticed a drop in strain on that arm, so I'm going to have to give these keyboards a try once they drop in store.
  • The keys look like bigger spectrum keys :-) not sure how nice thi sis from an RSI perspective.

    Persoanly I prefer the old skool IBM key boards or even the DEC VT100 ones (bit noisey when a touch typest is in full fight)
  • We have a new iMac. I would beg to differ. Apple never tried to force itself onto every computer the way Microsoft did to the exclusion of it's competitors.

    You buy their products because you want them and they are good, not because you don't know any better and get them served to you as shovel-ware, the windows way.

    iPhone hypeworthy? yes

    numbers/iMovie hypeworthy? yes

    this keyboard? no.


    Wheres the old Scoble? waste of my time reading posts like this (not to mention the waste of typing this up so maybe you get a clue)
