Got a kid headed to college? You need Paul…

Paul Wrubel lives a couple of houses down from me. I just met him at a neighborhood party, which is still going on (I’m teaching people about blogging and Google — lots of people live in my neighborhood who don’t understand all this stuff which is fun).

Anyway, one guy I met is Paul Wrubel who runs TuitionCoach.com. He tells me that tons of people don’t think they can pay for their kids to go to college. Really inspirational guy. Was the principal at Gunn High School in Palo Alto for a couple of years.

Anyway, it’s nice to know that I’m not the only blogger who lives on my street. Here’s a video I shot of Paul.

That’s a good thing to know who you neighbours are, I’ve stayed on my street for 16 years and I’ve only spoken to 4 of them in that time.

$59/year… I wonder if it works like Mint and shows you some deals to save you money which make nice spiffs for tuitioncoach.

The sad thing is that normally when families try to “fix” the issues – it’s usually too late.

    Nice looking site though.

Very cool — will have to check it out. Thanks for the tip. (Also, a neighborhood party sounds like a lot of fun, but I wonder if they’re becoming more rare?)

Caryn: they are very rare in California. But in North Carolina? Not rare at all.

In Arizona they do a neighborhood party city-wide once a year in October or November. I went to several of them this year (last weekend) and the police visited (neighborhood watch) and the fire department showed up and let the kids climb all over the truck. One cul-de-sac had a moon bounce and clowns and face painting and music and a grill that was about four feet wide by 15 feet long.

They call it GAIN – Getting Arizonans Involved in Neighborhoods.

It is like “National Night Out” – a national Crime prevention activity.

Yes, in California they are VERY rare. But I am feeling inspired.

TuitionCoach is a very cool site indeed. I’ve used it and learned how to save a few thousand on college. It’s a wonder that this info isn’t more openly available to everyone.

    Robert,

My son just started college and it’s pretty tight around here! I’m funding it all out of pocket. I downloaded a few of the pdf’s tonight on Paul’s site and I can see where it’s already going to help!
