Tracking the fires…

by on October 22, 2007

There’s a ton of chatter on Twitter about the fires. One thing that caught my attention is the scope of the fires. This Google Map mashup demonstrates how many places are burning.

Rodney Rumford’s Facebook Reviews site is down because of the fires too.

More on Google News.

My thoughts are with everyone affected.

  • Robert - here is my page discussing the top social sites and their coverage:

I added your link to the maps mashup. One thing that I see is that there is no good aggregation on any of these services for finding what's going on with the fire.

Maybe a site like flickr should create a "crisis central" type page. Would be good for those wanting to find all of the content related to the fire and would be goodwill for flickr.
  • Good update from Jim Forbes (http://forbesontech.typepad.com/) who was evacuated.

Here's another great Google mashup focused on San Diego: http://tinyurl.com/37dvp2

Here's a great twitter page done by KPBS:

The SD Union Trib website (local newspaper) was so slow they moved to blogspot to post updates:

  • Crazy stuff. My sister lives near San Diego and they said the smoke and ashes are everywhere! They haven't been forced to evacuate...yet.
  • hey robert. Our website is still up... we have just been evacuated for a few days. we might be able to return later today. hopefully our house will still be standing. ;)
