Universities communicate better with ClearTXT

Think mobile phones aren’t changing how the world works?

Check out ClearTXT. Here Doug Kaufman, CEO, shows me the system, which delivers a bunch of stuff about classes, scores, and much more to students via cell phones.

Think this isn’t a big deal? His sales are going nuts due to several recent shootings. Now schools need a way to tell all students what’s up. ClearTXT is the way to do that. Think of ClearTXT as the “Twitter for education.” It’s more than that, to be fair, but a pretty damn cool system.

    Makes me wonder whether or not stricter gun controls would negate the need for such a warning system at all.

    so… He makes off of school shootings? That’s creepy. It would seem it would better to invest in preventing rather than profiting from the aftermath

    Just a quick clarification…clearTXT was founded more than 3 years ago, long before the Virginia Tech tragedy or university safety was such a hot topic. Also, the primary purpose of clearTXT from the very beginning was to enable students to get their class, community, and other school-related information on their phones, not just emergency alerts. clearTXT is not focused on emergency alerts.

    Many companies sprung up to capitalize on the Virginia Tech tragedy – not clearTXT. In fact, when VA Tech happened, we made the decision to suspend all prospecting to new schools specifically because we didn’t want any schools to think we were trying to capitalize on the tragedy or engaging in profiteering.

    I agree with Ron that capitalizing on school shootings is creepy, but I just want to make sure you understand that this is not what we do – we were around long before, didn’t change our strategy, do a lot more than emergency alerts, etc. Ok, enough said. :^)
