Justin.tv watch out

Tonight I was over Rocky’s house and got a message that I could download the new Qik video streaming service to my cell phone. Cool, “let’s try it,” I said to myself.

It only took a minute to download and install.

Now there’s a “qik” icon in my applications folder. Click on it on my Nokia N95. A video window pops up, says “connected” and there’s a button called “stream.” I push that and this is the result. Rocky realizes that it truly is live, albeit with a five-second delay.

Holy s**t. I can stream live video to you now from anywhere at anytime. No longer do I need to wait for Kyte, Seesmic, or other services to upload videos.

I push that button and the live stream turns to a recorded video. Instantly.

Freaking amazing. Wait until I hook this sucker up with Twitter.

Imagine being at a conference, telling people “visit my Qik” and turning this on so they all could watch.

My world has just changed. Thanks Qik! Watch my page for some more videos coming later today.

The quality isn’t the best, but it’s watchable and that’s all we really need considering that video is coming to you over a cell phone connection.

I have been using the comvu pocketcaster service on my n95 the same sort of gig really but I will check out this one.
I get to run it over 3g here in the UK and even did one of our SL wimbledon press conference behind the scenes gigs with it.
I tried doing one of those california style driving on the freeway things.
The problem is, well this aint california. Usually the driving rain and stop star traffics does not make for a good shot ;-)
It did seem to be having some problems when I just checked epredator.tv, but I am sure it will be back

Video streaming from your phone QIK-ly, as in: instantly

Is instant video streaming from your phone quick enough for you. Or should I say QIK enough? QIK is a small application for various Nokia phones that lets you use the phone’s camera and data connection to immediately stream content to the web. Robert …

  19. Larry Says:

I’m not sure conference organizers would appreciate you shaing conference content with people that haven’t paid an entrance fee. Gotta believe this could be an issue.

  20. James D Kirk Says:

If qik.com is smart they would simply use the twitter api to build that functionality into their application, then those of us that carry two cell phones (pretty much just Scoble and his big head ;) ) could do it all form the same device. Plus, they need to include commenting on the web page for each video, or better just include one of the many universal comment application providers out there. That we could all comment on Scoble shooting video of wasted friends! (all in good jest, don’t eat anyones shorts!)
