John Battelle on 2007 predictions
He runs Federated Media, which is the advertising agency to many of the world’s top bloggers. He runs the Web 2.0 summit. He wrote a famous book about Google. He started the Industry Standard. And has done a few other things. Blogs here.
I visited earlier this week and are pretty darn accurate.
We also talk about Federated Media and advertising trends for blogs.
Great conversation, if you’re a blogger who fancies making money with your blogging (or other media, for that matter) you’ll want to listen to this one.
Regarding the cell phone comment, I’ve been playing with putting my interviews live via my cell phone on Qik, but here it didn’t work very well because the cell phone service sucks where Federated Media’s offices are.
Federated Media does the advertising for Boing Boing, TechCrunch, Dooce, and many other popular bloggers and media developers.

I haven’t seen the video yet, just wondering if you talk about the poor Microsoft-product sponsoring from federated media a few months that drove irkness and other things (where Om Malik, Arrington and other low hanging fruits took the opportunity to make quick money.). A good blogger asks the hard question. Let’s watch the video now.

You ought to edit this down to just the moments that John scratches his back or neck. You can kind of tell, behaviorally, that evolution hasn’t moved us that far ahead of monkeys.

With a million different things competing for our attention, I wish you’d edit these down to manageable sizes.

I feel ya about the shorter videos, and they’re coming as a standard op practice. Let us get through CES and I will oblige! Thanks for the feed back an please keep watching. GREAT stuff coming at ya!

Jeff: I wonder if David Letterman gets requests like this. Or Charlie Rose. Heheh.

Robert, you elicited valuable and informative information from Federated Media’s John Battelle. However, there were times when you cut him off before he could complete answers to questions.
I also found myself getting annoyed by long questions. A long answer is preferable to a long question, especially from someone with a successful track record telling us how to make money from blogging. Other than that, I found the interview very helpful.

Federated Media has cornered the market on big name blog advertising. Great interview!

Munir: that’s fair. See, these things aren’t just interviews, they are conversations where I get to participate too. Sometimes I go overboard, I’ll try to keep it down.

This interview verifies alot of what I have believed in the online media environment. Its seems Mr. Battelle was reinspired at the open air concert. Sometimes you have to LEAVE the valley to see things.

Rocky, Scoble. Good capture. I too would love to see a smaller version just cutting to the chase: John’s predictions.

Robert,
Great interview! It inspired me to create a cartoon around his “mercenary media” idea, which you can see on my blog:

have a great day.

Great interview - why doesn’t Batelle have a better chair? I hope he didnt make you sit in one of those for 30 min :)
I really appreciated the level of candor and sophistication Batelle provides in this one - and the philosophy of Federated Media. Thanks for this one. The quality of the streaming media is impressive.
Happy New Year and thanks for all the great stuff you share with us out in the world.
