Is YouTube working on streaming video?

by on January 9, 2008

“We’re working on a lot of interesting things,” Chad Hurley, one of the co-founders of YouTube told me yesterday when I met him and Steve Chen on the show floor and showed them Qik’s ability to stream video live from a cell phone (something that YouTube can’t do). Watch the rest of the interview here. I also ask them when they’ll do high def on YouTube.

Why were they at CES? To check out the new 150-inch Panasonic plasma. I tried to invite myself over to their house to watch the Super Bowl.

Mm hm. Videos. Uploaded by punters. Erm, that’s it.

Come to my house for the Super Bowl instead. Only 122″ but you won’t notice the difference. :)

See if they’re working on increasing the resolution/compressions of their damned videos. I thought for sure one of the first things Google would do with YT would be to increase the video quality. It’s HORRIBLE. It’s a shame YT won the online video fight a year ago because nearly all the other sites offer so much better quality.

Cool video.
The guys seemed really cool.
Amazing that viewers all over the world were able to ask the guys questions through your phone :)

i think you tube should work on their clrity aspect of the video . that is the main issue wid youtube

That was great.! I aspire to be a rich geek like those 2..hahahaha

Hmmm. Do I want to watch a bunch of nimrods streaming live crap from their cell phones? Not. There’s already sites that provide you with your own live “channel.” I think an ant farm is more interesting.

YouTube will have to utilize ON2 Technologies VP6-s for HD quality video and look for a new codec from ON2 called VP8…will change the video game for PC’s, TV’s and mobile devices.

“YouTube will have to utilize ON2 Technologies VP6-s for HD quality video”

or they can just use H.264 since they are already using it and are in bed with Apple.
