Jobless

by on January 15, 2008

I just realized that I am jobless today! (Yesterday was my last day at PodTech, tomorrow is my first day at my new job, I’ll have a post at midnight Pacific Time tonight about that).

Speaking of PodTech, Rocky and me kicked butt right until the end. We have a ton of videos going up on ScobleShow this week (my last video, which includes a really fun interview with my first girlfriend runs on Friday).

The first of the Retrevo Gangs, which features Fred Davis, one of the founders of Wired Magazine, among other things, are now up too. Fred’s one of my favorite people in the world — has such a great outlook on life and always inspires me.

Speaking of inspiring me. Yesterday was my son Patrick’s 14th birthday. Damn, I can’t believe he’s almost in high school. Two more years and he’ll be driving. Help us all! We’ll do some Qik videos from MacWorld today together and tonight we’ll be on Apple Universe Live together.

I love jobless days hanging with my favorite Apple fan (that’d be Patrick).

See ya later.

  • What was that famous Simpson's quote when Homer got fired:

Bart: All he does is lie there like an unemployed whale.

Though from what I've read today it seems you're hardly lying around.

Good luck with your new venture.
  • I guess you have to change your job status on wikipedia then, what a shame.
  • Good luck at what you do next!
  • Too bad it's only a day. I once spent two weeks between jobs (planned) and it was a free blast.

What happened to PodTech? Why did it end? What's next?
  • Boring: I never update my Wikipedia page. I never have touched ANY of the content on that page. Everything there was written by other people, which I greatly appreciate.

    TranceMist: http://scobleizer.com/2007/12/12/its-your-busin... has the details.
  • As to "what's next?" we're announcing that tonight at midnight Pacific Time.
  • Congrats on your new job
  • Looking forward to seeing what's next.
  • methinks it involves video.

Could it be a lifecast a la justin.tv or for MTV along the lines of "The Kardashians" - "The Scobles"

Perhaps a "Reality Tech" video network?

    Ah, the possibilities.

    Good luck!
  • Here's an invitation: schedule a few weeks off in Feb. and meet my wife and I in Bangladesh:

    http://www.hodr.org/index.php/2007/12/13/bangla...

That would be some footage to remember, and if you ever wanted a case study in grass roots technology use, Bangladesh in general and HODR.org in specfic would be perfect material.

From my blog post on the topic:

One fascinating thing about this trip already is the how deeply intertwined it is with technology. The volunteer group? Found via digg and a YouTube video. The bulk of my communication with friends in Singapore has been via SMS. My wife and I are packing a laptop, several digital cameras, and signing up for a Flickr Pro account. We’ll be staying in touch via VOIP calls via laptop, email, Facebook, and SMS. We’ve got generally awesome hands-on accounts of everywhere were headed from the thousands of travel blog posts that have been written.
  • a girl friend? :D sorry, only a joke !
  • Mr. Scoble... Hope the woolies have worn off from CES and you guys are having a tremendous time at Macworld Expo. Say "Hey" to Daniel and Patrick for me (to Dori too if you see her, that should draw a blank stare) and sorry couldn't be there to hang out.

As for tonight's announce... Hope it turns out as you disclosed in London. I'm going to be sleeping about the time you guys go public so... early, discreet congrats to you, Rocky and the Scobles! Hard earned and well deserved bud.
  • Oops, Sorry. Didn't mean to accuse you of anything.

I'll be tuning in at midnight to see what your next step will be.
  • Congrats on starting up the new job at Speedy Autoglass Inc. (this secret is the worst kept secret in the valley, but since you're keeping up appearances, I will too).

Catch up with you on the flipside!
  • Good luck Robert. I can't wait to see what you have planned next!
  • Hey Robert! Gee, thanks! You're one of my favorite people, too! I always have a blast doing stuff with you.. let's hope we can hang out more this next year!
  • Gerald: sorry, CES is 1,000 times more interesting than MacWorld. But MacWorld has Apple. Just walked the entire hall in three hours. Ooopppsss, make that two halls. Tells you a little bit about how much smaller MacWorld is than CES.

But, damn, I do want that Air! Really thin and light.
  • Why don't you vlog on YouTube or use one of the social broadcasting sites? Are you one of the beta users of the Seesmic web site?
  • Scoble thought where he was going next was an open secret. Fast Company TV.

What possible undertaking could be so important that it requires a press quarantine until midnight?
  • Good luck with your new gig! Hope to see you at SXSW this year. Still off/on re: your tweets on twitter...wonder if they'll fix that anytime soon.

Patrick will be driving in 2 years and then off to college (maybe) in 4. Kids make time move even faster I think.
  • Sounds like a good time to be home with the newborn and all. Enjoy the time for reflection, etc.!
  • And, of course, kick ass tomorrow.
  • @19: yeah, even the transition from MS wasn't this touchy.

I hope it won't be as disappointing as the Apple announcements today were.

In fact, that would be pretty much impossible.

Good luck on whatever it is Robert.
  • Good luck with the new. I know you'll continue to keep it real wherever you go. As the world of old media melts down, the need for the authentic voices of new media to keep pushing on. Go, Robert!

    Just more of same...

Scoble Show on Slow Company, with 5 hours of Doug Engelbart interview highlights upcoming. But in all seriousness, congrats, anythings better than Podtech, trying to erase that era from my collective memory banks.
  • mazel tov!

Eh, your new company beatcha to the news...not like it wasn't obvious the second you started writing for them. I called it then, but I thought you'd wait out the whole Podtech contract, but then not even God himself could stomach that.

    http://www.fastcompany.com/about/press/release/...

Sussman going on and on about "innovator", when you are just turning on the shaky camera and yabbering up the bland egos, boringly so, for a rough 58 minutes. Demand a Steadicam/Glidecam, and go Walk-Thru (some good there), but NO MORE Andyified Photo Walks.
  • Do I have to wait 18 minutes for the ball to drop so to speak?

Dude! You are the best! And the next adventure will be more fun than the last!
  • Congratulations on your new job. I'm between jobs myself and used the time to start a blog.
  • Niall O Broin
Today, January 26, your blog sidebar still says

Robert Scoble works at PodTech.net (title: Vice President of Media Development).
  • Niall, thanks, I will change that soon.
