Editing FastCompany.tv

I’m over Rocky Barbanica’s house and he’s editing shows for FastCompany.tv. You get a look at his setup (lots of gear!) and how he does his work on this Qik/cell phone video. I’ll be at Qik later today, so more from there. You get a taste of John Kao’s piano playing, too. Wow this stuff looks awesome in HD. I wish we could deliver you our HD source files.

  1. “Production value”….. Blasphemer! “Microphone”…. Tis the devils work!… ;-) lol

Can’t wait to see your new show’s Robert, looking good.

  3. Holger: I haven’t seen those guys deliver Discovery TV-level HD imagery yet. Usually you won’t get that level of stuff because it just is too many bits to deliver.

Maybe when everyone has fiber to the house, or companies and the Government launch tons of “Kizuna” copycats.

But focusing on resolution is only a thing, when content lacks, great for flushy nature shows, but increased resolution can’t ever improve “Walker, Texas Ranger”.

  7. I really appreciate the Qik videos, but almost entirely because your content is so strong and takes advantage of the technology. For many others, Qik would just mean that bad content is available on-line sooner!

What type of battery life are you getting for taking videos, and are you using an iPhone AT&T SIM/account or a separate carrier account?

  9. Don’t you talk about BitTorrent every once-in-a-while? I know that it would still take a lot of bandwidth from your servers, but it seems to be the best bet for delivering HD content. And how about that Democracy Player?

  11. Hey Robert,
I’ve never posted a comment here but I wanted to talk about content distribution. I have no doubt HD is the way to go, like Aaron said above there are many free ways to distribute content and for me higher quality video often means the difference from seeing and loving something. As a technology lover I feel the difference of HD and non-HD is like I was watching the Kennedy-Nixon debate in Chicago in 1960. The reason people try to downplay streaming HD is mainly the fact as you pointed out it uses too many bits, but once Youtube adopts high quality like Vimeo.com this really won’t be an issue.

  13. Hi,

Experience shows that content wins over quality (as long as its adequate). Anyway, as most of Roberts stuff will probably be talking-heads and pointing his cameras to computer screens, it really isn’t worth the investment.

    Yours kindly,

    Shakir Razak

    P.s. @ pete,
I get confused, but didn’t Fast Company have that logo/style first?
