I only met Jim Gray once, by chance, at a conference. A fascinating hour long conversation ensued where we talked about a variety of technical topics. I was tremendously impressed. At the time I had no idea who he was. Later, I met others who had been similarly touched by “chance” conversations with him. I wasn’t the only one. No doubt about it, he was a remarkable thinker and an equally remarkable listener.
