Hello world from my iPhone

I am sitting at lunch sitting next to Adobe’s CTO typing to you from my iPhone with the just-released WordPress iPhone application. Very nice but I don’t see a way to read, review, moderate comments. That is the functionality I really need when I am mobile. I would also love to be able to post a picture and comment on it. Anyway, enjoying getting more of my life onto my mobile even if it shows how far we have to go. Kick me if I get too exuberant about iPhone apps, they are the fun “shiny object” of the moment.

Picture posting is included, but I don’t see the comment moderation feature. To post a picture just switch to photos, add from library, and that’s it.

There’s a handy plugin called ‘Wphone’ for WordPress that mobilizes the admin. It’s optimized for the iPhone, but also works when you login from your S60-powered phone such as your N95-3 or N82. It’s no app, but might be a good option for you to be able to moderate comments on the go.

I’ve played around with the iPhone app a little bit, but I think I’ll be sticking with the Wphone plugin via Safari for now. For me, the deal breaker is the lack of landscape mode support in the WordPress app. The landscape keyboard is so much nicer than the portrait one for any significant amount of typing.

Hi! The app is cool, but it will cut the whole text if I write a German umlaut. I hope this will be fixed soon :)

@Scoble: How long do you have this WP design active? It looks great! I guess I should leave Google Reader more often

Why don’t you install Intense Debate for your commenting system? One of my favorite features is reply-by-email which lets you moderate and respond to comments by simply replying to the notification email. The other features (threaded commenting, reply notifications, etc) are nice additions as well.

    Yea,
It’s more like twitter for wordpress then it is a true XML-RPC wordpress client.
Still a good 1st start, and you can indeed attach pictures, it’s just not “obvious”.

When you’re editing a post take some pictures (or add them from your library) and they’ll get sent along w/ the post. But they’re attached @ the bottom, nothing fancy, see; http://blog.thecapacity.org/2008/07/22/posting-from-my-iphone/

As for admining WP, I set it up to email me and use the links from the email to approve / spam comments, etc… It’s not ideal but since it’s usually / mostly a “yes / no” statement on those then it’s ok.

The iPhone admin plugin would be worth a try.

The iPhone app is great for updating your blog & posting photos, but it doesn’t give you a full administrative interface. For full administrative functionality, WPhone is still the way to go. Even though it’s web based, it still feels almost as nice as a native app (depending on the responsiveness of your server).

Hey, it could be worse. Without exception, all of the applications available to me on my Windows Mobile 5 phone are dumbed down versions of the applications available in Windows XP. fftogo (the mobile FriendFeed client) is the best of the lot, but even fftogo has its limitations because of limitations in the FriendFeed API. Many of the other mobile applications – mobile MySpace, mobile Twitter, mobile LinkedIn – just aren’t that good.

Since your sitting next to Adobe’s CTO, could you ask him when Flash will be available on that nice little toy of yours

Unless you really really really really really needed GSM, wouldn’t have been much cheaper to simply upgrade your original iPhone to 2.0.

    Robert,

Welcome to the club. I take it you haven’t downloaded the lightsaber app yet, or you’d have blogged it by now. From one geek to another, I recommend both you and your son download it to fully appreciate its true genius. Enjoy! :)

I agree about the comments though. That would nice.

re Adobe CTO can you also ask him when mear mortals like moi can get our hands on the special flash reader they did for google search engine.

This is so I and others can look at flash sites using this tool and see if it is posible to optimise them.

Myself and a quite a few friends have boxes that contains all our old tech. Stuff like spare USB cables, broken gadgets, old mobile phones, maybe a router or two etc.. I was just thinking, now that I see you have the iPhone, how big a box you must have for all your old tech. What do you do with all?

I’m assuming you buy a lot and get a lot free. Do you eBay it? Store it? Give it your kids?

    Just curious.
