Happy sixth birthday Wordpress!

by on January 24, 2009

Six years ago Wordpress was born, according to Matt Mullenweg who founded and runs the company that makes it, Automattic. My blog here is hosted on Wordpress.com and I couldn’t be happier. I can’t wait to see what Matt does in the next six years. He has a few ideas, as he told me recently in an interview I did with him.

  • Hats off to WordPress sharing a birthday with the Macintosh computer. Both are among my favorite things.
  • Matt is a very cool character - he quietly built and manages one of the world's largest info networks and gives almost all of it away. Happy Birthday WordPress and best of luck as we all blog on..
  • No question WordPress is on top! I have a Blogger site that I use for a radio program and sure wish I had it on WordPress... Live and learn I suspect... if I had listened a little more !
  • WP is the best invention since sliced bread. Happy BD!
  • Six years old and look how mature the product is already! I mean you can just see the improvements in various wordpress installations. I know many people who do not like to use wordpress because of some of the security issues but these get resolved extremely quickly. Wordpress has been the cornerstone of my website network for a long time now and will be in the future.
  • great matt...long live wordpress
  • John
Ahh, good ole Wordpress, remember that funny event when they were spamming Google?
    http://waxy.org/2005/03/wordpress_websi/
And then when they released 2.3 in 2007 they periodically gathered your server information.

Sneaky guys with a popular product.
  • Word to Wordpress ...
  • Wordpress is definitely one of my favorite software tools... and the fact that it's free almost restores my faith in humankind!...
  • There is obviously a lot to know about this. I think you made some good points in Features also.
