SkyGrid launches free real-time-web news service into private beta

by Robert Scoble on April 21, 2009

Yesterday I visited Kevin Pomplun, CEO and Founder of SkyGrid, and while they were turning on the servers he introduced the new real-time news engine to me. The video is 45 minutes, but you’ll learn a lot about how this real-time news engine works.

Yesterday TechCrunch also wrote about SkyGrid and gave a few details.

It is for everyone? No. But it shows yet another piece of the real-time web so it’s important. For news junkies like me, though, it’s crack. I’m running it on its own computer here and watch it all day long.

Unfortunately for now, invites are hard to get to try the beta. I will let you know when more become available.

    Robrert,

Saw your interview with kevin this mornuing. This looks awsome! can't wait to get my hands on it. has the company given any clues to how fast they will roll out the invites?
  • Can't wait to take a closer look, already requested one of the elusive invites - I remember you being big on the technology when we met.

Looking forward to seeing you on the 18th.
  • Would be nice to see that model applied to various topics (obviously, financial news has better business appeal that, says, sport news), but it seems that sooner or later the technology will be everywhere. An automatic ticker embeded in websites (newspapers should do so).
  • private beta to public beta... just waiting
  • Robert,

What the heck are you doing with all that money from rackspace? Why don't you get a good cam for you? What happened your flip mino?
  • De Fault
I cant wait till someone creates the IPhone app.
  • Chirag: I wasn't able to get Rocky there with our HD cameras, sorry. This was done live, so the quality will not be as good as if I film it for high quality.
  • Robert,

I apologize if I've offended you. I always appreciate your work. I understand that's a technology limitation for one not being able to telecast high quality video live. I think you are sacrificing larger segment of your readers by concentrating on live talks. In this era when users don't even want to watch TV shows on time & resort to websites which stream content at their leisure, *most* your viewers too wanna watch your shows at their leisure. And, when they get to see this webcam quality video they'll walkout. I couldn't bare this video not even for a minutes. I think you should consider shooting good quality video, stream whatever best is possible live, but update the post with the decent quality video.

    Regards,
    Chirag
  • Would LOVE an invite!

skygrid takes something useful (news) and turns it into something useless - a torrent. tell me the value of seeing a stream of *every* wire story published. there isn't any. indeed you miss the nuggets in their stream because of all the crap you end up tuning out. the data isn't "tradeable", it isn't "actionable"...its just a noise stream. its one of those things that appears useful at a superficial level but provides no genuine utility.

I really thanks to all for video. It is really very nice and excellent. Sky Grid is very help to us because it have gathers up millions of articles online – including top business news sites, blogs, news releases, and other information.
  • Interesting prospect, would appreciate an invite if possible so I can learn more.
