Introducing a new logo and design on Scobleizer

Scobleizer Logo

Thanks to I Design Your Logo for coming up with a new logo for me. Disclosure: they did it for free for me, but I needed a new one and thought “why not?” They sent me a bunch of ideas, I picked a couple I liked, and they iterated again. So far most people on Twitter and Google Buzz like it.

At the same time, I have a new design, put in place by my boss, Rob La Gesse. He bought me a new theme for WordPress and put in place new Twitter widgets from Publitweet (nicer than the ones from Twitter themselves) and also put in place the Wibiya bar at the bottom which lets you see a variety of things I’ve done around the Internet (Google Buzz coming soon) and also adds those Facebook like buttons.

One of the things I’ve tried to do is keep my blog simple and easy to read. That’s one reason we went with the Genesis WordPress theme.

Anyway, hope you like it, although, like I said over on Google Buzz most of my readers probably won’t even notice because they can read me over there or on an RSS aggregator.

Finally a use for the like button :-)

  2. aaronbrethorst says:

holy friggin' busy. Those bottom action bars were bad when Facebook first added them, and they're still a bad idea months after FB whacked 'em.

  3. David Siteman Garland says:

Dana and the folks at I Design Your Logo are good people! Well done.

  4. Zee. says:

I like it – aside from the position of the tweetmeeme button and also the site is a bit oddly aligned…seems the entire site is shifted to the right leaving a gap on the left but no gap on the right. This is FF 3.6.3 I'm on btw http://stash.zee.me/Picture%20429.png

  5. thejasonsadler says:

    you got that right!

  6. Peeter says:

Bad logo. For those who see it first time it reads sobleizer (as son of the bitch leizer). For those who know, it doesn’t matter. And kerning is really bad – like between i,z in small size; o,b are not touching, but b,l,e are and so on… Bad logo, no wonder it was free.

  7. znmeb says:

Yup … it's a blog … a WordPress blog … nothing to see here … these are not the droids you are looking for …

  8. I like the logo, but Thesis theme was much much better.

  9. jjprojects says:

Nice. That S must be really heavy to hold up the obleizer like that.

  10. fatscoble says:

Big deal. You whore your blog out for a new logo, and a bunch of brown-nosers come and say how great and “clean” it looks.

    Give me a break.

  11. matthewdbenson says:

Nice looks. Good logo. Clean theme. Cool buttons.

  12. Mat Packer says:

Interesting layout, must admit I do prefer the Thesis setup myself.

Just a couple of little CSS tweaks are needed on the nav bar as the active and hover background / padding are larger than the navbar itself in Safari.

The archive widget in the sidebar seems unnecessary.

But we all know design probably doesn't matter that much here as I reckon you're RSS hits on a daily basis are probably larger than the site traffic anyway.

  13. Radu Panciuc says:

Love the new logo and the fact that you keep the blog clean and clear :)

  14. ilter says:

    Agreed.
+ RSS thingy in the logo is a bit heavy as well.
I can't say I liked it, however, it looks professional at least.

  15. paulrichards says:

    Nice look.. especially the logo

  16. Denis says:

I liked the simple look when you didn’t focus on aesthetics. Your content speaks for itself.

  17. Jack says:

I like the new logo and it seems to keep the blog clean and clear which is my fav

  18. Ahad Bokhari says:

I personally don't like it Robert, but that's just me. It'll do for now.. It looks more like a telephony VOIP based logo, but i get the drift of the signal here – that concept i like.

Thesis was a better theme, but genesis looks clean and simple too. On Chrome @ 1024 x 768 your site doesn't fit the browser width and that pesky horizontal scroll bars show up. Who browses the web at that res, you'd be surprised. At least the designer should have factored the lowest res denominator in..

Hmmm reading your feeds through reader? Not me i like to hover over to the blog, the traditional way and i enjoy that experience, that's just me again tho..

  19. 9swords says:

What the heck is going on around here.

  20. The design is incredibly lacking and the logo is… eh… kinda lacking. I don't get the point of it, the typography is a little weak, and it's too hard to read.
And the theme that someone purchased for you? lacking as well. It is just mediocre. Nothing outstanding, unique, memorable, or attention grabbing. There are may components of it that make your site difficult to interact with. Like the location of this contact form. It shouldn't be put randomly in the middle of all the comments. And scrollbars in the middle of the page? Those died years ago, or so I thought.
I can be overly critical, a fault of mine, but I am not impressed with this and expected better from someone in your position.

  21. Mark Essel says:

I dig the new logo, mostly because as your views change your blog and expression should change with it. There's a little too much going on in the page at first, I'd prefer I poke around and open up different views (click here to see tech tweets, click here to view the wibiya bar). Default off is just a personal preference, overall I think Rob did a wonderful job overhauling the site to your liking.

I've reinvented to look of my blog a dozen times in it's first year. Now that I'm busy it'll shift a little less often, but it's still fun trying on a new set of virtual duds on our virtual soapboxes. Keep experimenting with your blog and enjoy the process :)

  22. I agree that things are rather busy, especially the sidebar. But otherwise, pretty decent!

  23. What is with the shadow under the signal in the logo? It has the wrong shape.

  24. discountmbtshoesonline says:

simple and crazy,l like it very much.

    Womens MBT Shoes

  25. I appreciate that your blog is easy to read on my iPhone, I often read it there. Also, let's face it, I am here for the content, thanks for not distracting readers with anything else. BUT I *do* like the logo :)

  26. roniphone says:

really interesting blog, and nice template

  27. scoble says:

Your blog is really getting heavy

  28. Vikas SN says:

    The Logo looks cool :)

Also the theme is amazing! Design is so much simpler and loads pretty much faster now.

  29. Mark Hendy says:

I love the new logo, it's spot on in terms of who you are and how you conduct your online life

  30. jechakowitz says:

I like the new logo, but maybe that's because I'm a bit biased — my business logo [www.echo-communications.com] also embraces the “echo” look/feel :)

  31. Love the new logo! It's clean, and it represents your brand well. Good job by I Design.

  32. joshhyde says:

Just change the font and it's Engadget's logo:)

  33. roncerr says:

Still waiting for word wrap so I can read the @#$!* column.

  34. ffcode says:

yeah the image is cool! but then every person has different tastes!
hey Scoble where is your tweetboard? request for an alpha invite they would be happy to give you one!
see it in action at my blog and you should have had a better theme maybe Hybrid or thematic! or any other there are lots of great free themes out there! i have my personal collection here at http://box.net/wordpressthemes

  35. marfi says:

I like the new logo a lot – it shows what you do – stream & share :) Great job!
