Zooomr to relaunch this afternoon?

I’m off to hang out with Kristopher Tate, founder of Zooomr. They are really close to turning on a major new version. Kristopher is on Ustream now live. So, at about 1 p.m. I’ll be on live too!

Zooomr is a small photo sharing site that’s getting a cult attraction. There were about 100 people watching Kristopher working when I showed up in his chat room.

  1. You Rock! Thanks for taking time to do this, we know you are swamped…but this is the start of something big, Zooomr will be a serious player after this upgrade.

  3. I’ll believe it when I see it. I really like Zoooooooooomr but this upgrade, down for days, we’re almost there, just another 5 minutes, down for more days, only a color map holding us up, down for more days, revert to old version, stick with it a few months, site’s down, doing upgrade, just 12 more hours, down for days, we’re almost there, down for more days, watch us not launch live, down for more days, take a break and go party while you watch us not work live, down some more, revert to old system(?) cycle is killing me.

  5. Gary, if it’s killing you, imagine what it’s doing to us — our users are so passionate that they remain with us. Either way, I’m dead tired after still being up for over four days.

We’ve been UStreaming the entire time.

Either way you count it — we’re here for you.

  7. If this were a larger company with more resources, you could expect more, but I think in Kris and Thomas’ case, you have to cut them a break, given their circumstances. Anyone whos upgrade ANYTHING knows you can expect unforeseen circumstances, and things to go awry. And one thing that is telling, Gary, if you weren’t interested then that whole cycle thing wouldn’t be killing ya, right?

  9. Man, I’m really excited about mark III. It’s a small operation (2 man team!) so Im prepared to wait because I know its going to be good! Kudos to Kris for the effort – you rock!

  11. Kristopher and Thomas have been doing an amazing job of keeping their users informed, and interacting with their users over the course of the last few days. I have an understanding of how hard something like this can be, but I’ve never tried to it while keeping up a live webcast!

For a 2 man team who are trying to change the (photo sharing) world, they’re incredible; an inspiration to the web 2.0 community. Critics have had their say about the launch, asking why x, y, or z couldn’t have been done faster, better, or in the background.

At the end of the day, Kris is a 19 year old guy with an enormous amount of talent and enthusiasm. Thomas isn’t even a developer; they’ve never done anything like this before, and they don’t have years of experience behind them, so they’re going to make “mistakes”. Given the potential, and the cost (or lack of it) I think they deserve the respect and applause of every member of the so-called web 2.0 community.

  13. When I first saw you, I thought you were Thomas with bleached hair.. or something. Then I very quickly realized you were someone else who’d infiltrated..
